These scams may come over the phone, at your door, or in your mailbox.  They offer quotes and repairs to your home right after storms have passed.  To avoid being scammed by these Storm Chasers, there are a couple of things you should always look for:

See if they are from your area, or if they are out of state.  Often times these scammers are out of state hunters, making it easier for them to abandon you.  Research the company your talking to in depth.  Make sure they are legit with possible references, certificates, and if they have a local office nearby.  If they come to your door offering sales-y “Free Roofing” deductibles, then they are most likely “Storm Chasers!”
